We are urging members of the public to please think before going to A&E as this is for emergencies only and needs to be kept for those who really need it – people with life threatening conditions such as heart attacks, strokes and serious injuries.
With the recent cold weather, there has been an increase in people turning up to A&E, many of whom don’t really need to go to hospital and can be easily treated by their GP or pharmacist.
Many minor ailments such as sore throats and a bad cough can be treated with over the counter medicines available from your local pharmacy. If you are unsure about an illness, you should call 111 first who will be able to advise you further. Or for self care visit www.nhs.co.uk for advice and information on staying well.
