The popular Healthy Legs Clinic in Blackburn with Darwen is being improved for local residents by being relocated to the borough’s two health centres.
The new look clinics at Barbara Castle Way Health Centre, Blackburn and Darwen Health Centre from the 1 April 2020, will also move to a referral and appointment based system.
The move was welcomed by patients when they were told about the proposed relocation.
Kathryn Morgan, Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist at the clinic run by Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Primarily we want to improve the experience for local residents by ensuring they are seen in a timely manner and in a clinically safe environment which will also improve privacy and dignity for all.
“Patients will be referred to the clinic by their GP practice either through a GP or practice nurse. This will reduce the number of people who turn up at the clinic who are then having to be turned away because the clinic is either full or they need to be seen by an alternative service to the Healthy Legs Clinic.”
People will be given the choice of being seen at Barbara Castle Way Health Centre in Blackburn or at Darwen Health Centre. The clinic at Barbara Castle Way Health Centre will be on a Monday from 1pm to 4.30pm and on a Tuesday at Darwen Health Centre from 1pm to 4.30pm.
