Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) was delighted to support the Council’s Good Neighbour Awards last night.
The awards, which are now in their sixth year, recognise members of the public who go above and beyond for their community. They were held at King George’s Hall, Blackburn, in partnership with the Lancashire Telegraph and the CCG.
CCG Chair Graham Burgess attended the event and presented an award to Kat Zaman and Kingdom Outreach who organised the Free Lunch Box scheme over the school holidays.
The scheme provided over 17,000 free and healthy lunch boxes via children’s centres over the six week holiday period. All the sandwiches were prepared by volunteers every day at Wesley Hall, Fielden Street, and were then taken by transport to each centre. Kat coordinated all the food, the transport, the volunteers and so much more. Kingdom Outreach working with the Children’s Centres identified a number of selected families, who went on a short “cooking on a budget” course. The families then had a chicken dinner at a centre and just before Christmas, they received a Winter Hamper. Mr Burgess said: “What a worthy winner and a fantastic scheme helping thousands of children enjoy a healthy and nutritious lunch over the summer holidays. A truly good neighbour indeed.”
