Medical staff from GP practices across East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen are celebrating after being named finalists in the prestigious General Practice Awards 2016.
The Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group and East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Groups teams have been shortlisted in the Practice Manager of the Year, Nursing Team of the Year and Diabetes Team of the Year categories.
Designed to recognise, highlight, and reward the hard work and innovation that gets carried out every day in surgeries up and down the UK, the awards celebrate team projects and individual achievements carried out to deliver the best possible care to patients.
Dr Phil Huxley, Chair at NHS East Lancashire CCG, who spoke on behalf of both CCGs, said: “We are absolutely delighted that these teams and individuals across the two CCG areas have been shortlisted for these major health awards.
“Just being nominated is a major achievement and to reach this far is a testament to the dedication and hard work that the teams show in providing the very best care for their patients.”
In East Lancashire, the team at Colne Family Doctors, at Colne Health Centre, has been nominated in the Diabetes Team of the Year category for their strong engagement with the local community on issues around diabetes. Nigat Sultana of Richmond Medical, Acorn Centre, Accrington, has been nominated for Practice Manager of the Year for her management success at GP practices in an area of high deprivation, and Hyndburn GP Community Matrons have been nominated for Nursing Team of the Year for their pioneering care work with the over 75s across a number of GP practices.
In Blackburn with Darwen, Ann Neville from Darwen Healthcare has been nominated for Practice Manager of the Year, as well as the practice being nominated for Diabetes Team of the Year and Nursing Team of the Year.
The General Practice Awards are sponsored by health industry magazines Nursing In Practice, Management In Practice, The Commissioning Review and Pulse.
The finalists will be invited to attend a black tie dinner and glittering awards ceremony at the Lancaster Hotel in London on 24 November.
