NHS Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been shortlisted for a national award for its successful flu campaign.
Called “Protect Your Family”, the campaign was aimed at urging parents / guardians / carers to vaccinate their children against flu.
Commissioners worked closely with GPs, local councillors, community leaders and schools to spread the message about the importance and benefits of the vaccination.
The campaign, which was designed by T-PW Designs in Darwen, has been shortlisted in the Flu Fighter + category of the NHS Employers Flu Fighter Awards.
The CCG has been shortlisted alongside Well Pharmacy, NHS Salford CCG and Greater Manchester Childhood Flu Immunisation Team.
Insight work was carried out with parents initially to look at the reasons why they did not give consent for the vaccination. Engagement sessions were held throughout the borough including children’s centres, playgroups and play areas to answer parents’ concerns and information leaflets were widely distributed.
The campaign was promoted widely on bus stops, in the media and across digital channels.
Councillors also helped to spread the message in the community addressing concerns about safety and ingredients. Schools and local businesses also encouraged parents to take up the offer of free vaccination.
Graham Burgess, Chair of the CCG said: “This is fantastic news and is a great example of how partnership working can bring real health benefits to our communities.
“Protecting our children, families and the wider population is so important because flu and complications associated with the virus can have really serious consequences. A big thank you to all the staff involved – well done.”
An awards evening is being held on Tuesday, April 24 April in Manchester when the winners will be announced.
