Three GP surgeries across Pennine Lancashire nominated for People’s Choice Award: Surgery of the Year

NHS East Lancashire and NHS Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are delighted to announce that three of their GP surgeries have been nominated for The People’s Choice Award: Surgery of the Year.

Hollins Grove Surgery in Darwen, Irwell Medical Centre in Bacup, and The Surgery in Haslingden are three of 81 GP surgeries nominated from across the country.

The General Practice Awards are an annual celebration of the hard work, innovation, and dedication taking place in primary care across the UK. Showcasing the very best projects, teams, and leaders and sharing in achievements, the awards are a fantastic chance to step back and reflect on the past year.

A new award has been added for 2018 – The People’s Choice Award: Surgery of the Year. New this year, the award offers the general public the chance to give their thanks and show appreciation for their local healthcare team. It is also perfectly timed to tie in with the NHS’ 70th birthday celebrations.

Dr Malcolm Ridgway, Clinical Director Quality and Effectiveness at NHS Blackburn with Darwen CCG, said: “We are obviously very proud of all of our practices for all of their continued hard work but absolutely delighted that this is being recognised in this way. This award gives us an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our GP practice staff that go above and beyond to provide exceptional care in the borough.”

Dr Mark Dziobon, Clinical Director of Performance at NHS East Lancashire CCG, added: “It’s fair to say that GPs and their practice teams have never worked as hard or been as committed to improving the lives of their patients.

“The award recognises the passion, commitment and hard work we see on a daily basis. So, if you are a patient registered at one of the practices nominated and you’ve been impressed with the care you’ve received or the way you’ve been treated by your GP or someone at your GP practice, this is your chance to say thank you by voting them for the People’s Choice Award: Surgery of the Year.”

After a period of nominations, the long list is now open for voting with 81 surgeries in the running to be crowned surgery of the year.

You can vote for free online via the General Practice Awards website and really get behind your surgery to help them make the short list. Voting closes on 10th August, with the short list being announced on 3rd September.
